Counselling

People seek counselling for a variety of reasons. Life is sometimes hard, confusing, sad, anxious, infuriating, disappointing and hurtful. It can be difficult at times such as these to (a) remain hopeful (b) see the situation clearly (c) understand the whirl of emotions (d) talk (e) move towards resolution

Counselling can help! Some of the issues that I can assist people with include:

  • relationship difficulties
  • parenting
  • communication
  • conflict
  • anger management
  • loss and grief
  • adolescent counselling
  • self-esteem
  • anxiety
  • stress management
  • assertiveness training
  • work, study, careers
  • family dysfunction
  • sexuality
  • motivation
  • disconnectedness

Psychotherapy

As well as Counsellor, I am also a Gestalt Psychotherapist. Through Gestalt therapy, I assist those seeking assistance to pay more attention to perceiving, feeling and acting than on interpreting and juxtaposing old attitudes and unhelpful patterns of living. Increased awareness of what the client does, how they are doing it, and how they might welcome change, is the focus of Gestalt therapy. Clients are supported through the change process and are asked to look at ways they can enlist support (from self and others) outside the therapy room.  Some people seek out the services of a counsellor (with generalist training) while others specifically seek out the services of a psychotherapist to work in quite specific ways. Trained as both counsellor and psychotherapist, I am happy to work in whichever way best suits the growth needs of the client.
